I love walking in nature, cooking, drinking tea and scented candles!
My journey to becoming a doula started in 2022, when I started training as a midwife. I completed 2 years of the degree and in this time, I caught 17 babies and looked after many new mums postnatally. It really helped me to understand the maternity system from the inside out. I realised that women deserved more than the stretched maternity system could provide alone. I started looking into how I could provide the support I felt instinctively was needed. I realised that the work of a doula could transform women's experiences and give them back their voice, their autonomy, and their trust in their bodies.
I was 22 when I had my first baby. I found myself overwhelmed by the conflicting advice on pregnancy and birth and I lacked in knowledge, support and confidence to feel empowered to make the decisions that were best for me. As a result, I grappled with postnatal depression, so I empathise deeply with anybody experiencing this.
With my second baby, everything was different. I felt safe, informed, and in control. I gave birth at home in a birthing pool, at 42 weeks. This was a truly transformative experience and ignited a fierce passion in me to support and empower all women to feel as safe and informed as I had.
I have worked with children and families for 15 years. I am a qualified Social Worker and work with children in foster care on a freelance basis alongside my work as a doula.
